Each and every PC or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level program that communicates with the computer hardware, including peripheral devices such as a mouse and a printer, as well as any applications that are installed on the system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a web server, each application runs within the parameters set by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, and so on. This is valid for both standard website scripts and server-side software like a media server. When a virtual server is set up on a physical one, there can be two independent Operating Systems, called guest OS and host OS, so that you'll be able to set up a different software environment on the same machine.
Multiple OS in VPS
We provide three different Linux releases for the Operating System of our virtual private servers
- Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are some of the most stable and reliable OSs you can find and we provide all 3 rather than just one since we realize that you might want to install some software that has specific requirements with regards to the Operating System it will run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a vast support community behind it and there're different software packages you may install on the web server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS in case you would like to use one and that is why we offer several Control Panels as well. In case you decide that you want a different OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the current one and install the one that you need. In addition, we offer an optional service to keep the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting
If you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers
, you will find three Operating Systems on the order page as we want to give you a larger choice with regard to the system environment on your server as different applications could have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and take advantage of a reliable and risk-free web hosting service. Based on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you've selected in the beginning doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you'd like to run. We can also upgrade your OS on a regular basis to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
